OCR Scanning of paper records

    Hello,

    I am new to the field and a student in my last year of school before I take my RHIT.

    I have been wondering if someone could fill me in regarding paper scanning of medical records into an electronic health record, etc.

    Was optical character recognition (OCR) scanning ever considered an option when scanning in medical records?  What I am wondering is if there was any attempt to collect discrete pieces of data from these paper records via OCR scanning.
