This editorial in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association may be of interest to many in this group and others.  It briefly summarizes where telehealth stands based on experiences in a variety of settings.

For example, the article notes that in addition to technology challenges other potential barriers include "...mistrust of technology, low digital literacy, inadequate resources for purchase of devices and upgrades, and limited ability to use technology due to comorbidities such as poor sight."

Thank you for sharing the article Dr. Stearns! ePPE is a new term for me too - love it! I also appreciate and agree with the increase in patient satisfaction scores. As a parent we have had to use telehealth for an MD visit with my daughter earlier this Summer. It worked so well and I was very thankful we did not have to go into the clinic and risk exposure.

Edited by Frank Ruelas 08-19-2020 10:06 just helped brighten my day that much more...thanks for posting!

It is reassuring, in my opinion, to hear how telehealth is making such a positive impact in the lives of so many patients and their families.  If it takes the current PHE to be the triggering event that makes telehealth available going forward...that may be one of the key, positive takeaways that stays with us after these challenging times are behind us.
