Release of Information Pricing

    Hello all,

We currently utilize a ROI vendor for all hospital release of information requests. We are considering using them as well for all of our physician practices. I am curious what style of pricing you are using at this time. They are trying to use gross margin as their fee model, charging by request, not by page as I pay for now in the acute care setting. Is this something new out in the ROI world? I would appreciate any feedback you can provide.

    Thank you in advance!

I work on the health insurance side and see invoices from a variety of ROI companies; some rather extreme in their flat charge e.g. $45.00 to pull a record for two pages.  Some do follow the state guidelines and their charges seem to be more in line with what I would expect.  One suggestion, based on what we see on this side of the fence, is to find out what protocols the ROI company has to ensure that their staff only copy what is in fact being requested and honoring the minimum requirements under HIPAA..  We see many situations where the ROI company has copied hundreds of pages when only 2 or 3 pages were needed for the request.
