    Hello all,

My name is Mark Moralls and I have a BSHI and RHIA that I acquired in 2016 and 2017 and am interested in connecting with those in the HIM field who can help me with my transition from pharmaceutical into healthcare. I have tried several times to find a mentor through my local chapter but none are available. I have also attended several meetings to introduce myself but have not gained any long term relationships. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Ashley,

I hope you are doing well! I recently read an online article from a recruiter who basically had grown tired of asking the typical interview question, "Tell me about yourself?" and instead decided to change it to "What have you done lately?". I know there are data science projects to test learned skills and wondered if there might be any healthcare data/information projects that are available that I could work on.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

In Health Information Management we are constantly analyzing data
    • Review duplicate medical record rates and analyze the data to determine any trends in to a particular registration staff or location in our healthcare organization.
    • Record all HIPAA Privacy incidents and breaches and identify any trends in the types of incidents and/or breaches. Each year I compare the number of reported incidents to determine if our rate is increasing or decreasing and identify a new area of focus for HIPAA education for the upcoming year.
    • Report the number of discharges for each service type to the CFO.  This information is used to review analysis staff productivity and identify staffing needs as well.
    • Report expired patients to Mid-America Transplant
    • Monitor and analyze electronic physician documentation utilization, which is encouraged rather than using back-end speech recognition.
    • Audit and trend front end speech recognition physician documentation reports for quality.
    • Monitor requests for release of information and correspondence to validate appropriate staffing
    Hope this helps!
