I am curious...I want to poll other people a in acute care facilities. What is your average delinquency rate? What is your bed size?

Our system-wide average delinquency rate is 1%. We are a 9-hospital system with our largest hospital being 700+ beds. We centralized deficiency and delinquency management within the corporate HIM department a few years ago and have experienced wonderful results!

I always think of it as delinquent means the record is past due to be completed.  Typically defined in your bylaws/rules and reg.

Correct. I was curious of those who responded with their average rates how many days per their rules/regs,bylaws,policies they considered a record delinquent in order to do some comparisons.

Does anyone include outpatients (other than OBS and ambulatory surgical) in their rate calculations?

We do use the ER patients but we also calculate our delinquency with ER patients and without ER patients and we show the difference in our PI report.

How is that working for you.  When you are surveyed, you are held accountable to the 15 days, correct?

We are a 400+ bed facility with multiple campuses. We include inpatient, observation, surgery, emergency department and ambulatory clinics in our delinquency rate/process.  Our average delinquency rate is 0.2%. The aging process currently starts at discharge and providers have 30 days to complete their records.
