I have been trying to research how to obtain a consent for treatment from a patient for a scheduled telephone consultation with the patient's PCP.   I was recently informed by the admissions staff that a nurse informed them that the physician will be scheduling a telephone consult with a specific patient.  I know there are CPT codes for this kind of appointment, and we will make sure the physician is aware that she still needs to do the normal documentation for a patient visit.  However, our policy is to not accept verbal/telephone consents.  Can anyone direct me to any regulations, etc. on how to handle obtaining the patient's consent?
