RHIA/RHIT - confused about who can sit for the exam

    Hello!

I'm confused about who can take the RHIA.  I have a masters degree in Healthcare Administration, a Bachelors In Healthcare Administration and I work as a Compliance Manager for a Multi specialty Clinic.  I manage a Coding Auditor, Medical Records department and our Revenue Cycle Director.  When looking at certifications, I believe the RHIA is most applicable to what I do for the organization, but based on what I'm reading, it sounds like I'm ineligible because my degree program wasn't in Health Information.  Is that how you are interpreting this as well?  What other alternatives may be available to me if that is the case?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sarah:

I was in a similar situation when I was thinking about RHIA/RHIT.  I spoke with someone at AHIMA and they helped me to outline suitable options.  I suggest you contact them to discuss your situation and go from there.  Good luck to you!!!
