Workflow in an EHR & Impact on the correct encounter selection for CPT

    Good morning,

I am trying to get as much information together before a meeting I have next week and need as many resources as possible to show the connection between an end user's workflow and the impact it has on selecting the correct encounter codes, procedures, etc.

Example: Urologist is an ambulatory provider and also a surgeon - workflow currently is to stay within the ambulatory setting EHR versus one that a surgeon would use. All they do is change their "experience" to a surgeon when they do a surgery. From my understanding and education - workflows have a huge impact on the documentation which also has a big impact on the coding/billing of that encounter. From what I have seen a lot of pieces are missing even when they change their view to the surgeon.

Thoughts? Hard to explain but will do my best to give more details within reason that I am able to do so. (MHS Genesis (Cerner product)/DHA)
