    Hello,

I am the HIM supervisor for a CMHC and my organization we will be implementing a new EHR at the end of this year.  I am currently heading a chart committee to determine chart structure and defining the medical record.

Can anyone share their best practices, policies/procedures, and/or general chart structure. I would greatly appreciate the guidance.

    Thank you!

    Hi Kelly,
I was about to post similar question as our medical practice is planning to transition to EPIC physician solution later this year.

I am interested in knowing tips and strategies from trusted colleagues who have been through the process. There's a lot I know we need to think about and start planning for such as what to do about attachments we have in the current system, patient portals...

Wonder if AHIMA  has a toolkit for transitioning to new EHR?  If not perhaps, we could develop one!

Hi, Not sure if you were aware of this document.  The Health Information Technologies and Innovation Practice Council is in the process of review for updates.  In the meantime, I hope this helps!

    Big THANK YOU!

For those in a similar situation, keep in mind that implementing an EHR use is going to present a change in processes and in your environment.  If so, also take the opportunity to review and update your Risk Analysis under the Security Rule.  This can really help you stay on top of making sure your current administrative, physical, and technical safeguards help protect the security of the ePHI that you create, maintain, receive, or transmit.

    Good luck!
