Comments: When we initially went Live with the patient portal we knew we had to have results available with 36 hours so we set our portal hold hours to 35 hours. Our portal users started looking for their results and when we switched from Meditech Magic to Meditech 6.15 our Administration asked us to set the portal hours with no hold. After much discussion, we agreed to hold for one hour.  Patients are able to get their records at any time from HIM, without waiting a specified period of time.

Thanks Kathyrn, do you use the Meditech portal? We are client server as well as use Iatric, looking to possibly switch to Meditech but Pathology is holding us back.

Hi, I know one big con that will not allow us to move in that direction is Pathology reports. They are not available in the Meditech portal.

  • 16.  RE: Patient Portal Survey

    Posted 04-03-2019 08:44
We could send pathology...we don't. But a big con is that no scanned images ( or cold fed images) can appear on our portal.  So in our situation, that includes EKG's, Respiratory Reports and a few other diagnostic tests.  Also the way the lab displays is not conducive to how provider or patients want to see the results.  For instance if a patient wanted to print their CBC from the portal, they cannot.  They can only print each individual component of the test.  So for a CBC you would have a page for each component... one for WBC, one page for Hgb, one page for HCT etc...

We have the Meditech portal and we were told that they are in the process of coding the programming that will allow us to share scanned/uploaded documents to the portal. I am surprised that you can share Path results as I have been told twice now that it isn't possible, but there is an IDEA on the list to allow for this. Our site has been added to the list of sites that support that programming. We were Magic and are now 6.15.

We have been on many of Meditech's IDEA list and still are waiting for results. I appreciate the feedback, which gives me an opportunity to stay with Iatrics for our portal.

We use Meditech portal and we are able to share pathology reports, we only share them after 5 days so the provider has time to discuss with the patient the results.  We are struggling with the portal and age 13 to 18.  The adolescent owns the results for pregnancy and STD so we have made these test sensitive so they do not go to the portal as the parent/guardian own the rest of the records.  With the new rules coming is this considered blocking?

Thanks. I am not sure why you are able to see Path and not other Meditech portal users. We were told it was not possible. We do not provide portal access to minors.

We don't provide portal access to minors either. It's such a finicky task of what is allowed and what wouldn't be. I don't think there would be a fool proof way to accomplish this. I don't think it would be "blocking" because the parent can go to HIM at any time and request the records (of course they would be perused very quickly first, to ensure it's all appropriate.)

I tabulated all the responses to the Patient Portal Survey I sent last week.

I was looking to create a database of patient portal use.
The response was not as good as I thought.
If you sent me a response, thank you.

If you are interested in the results send me a message and I will send you the Excel file.

I will not blast the file to this discussion group

We do not send all lab results to the portal.  We have some marked sensitive that do not go, some are by age and some are just marked sensitive for example STDs.
