Productivity Standards for HIM Tasks

I am looking for productivity standards for HIM tasks for prepping, scanning, quality control, indexing, and ROI.  An organization I work with has been tasked with creating standards for these tasks, but based on my research there are no industry standards and appears to be by organization.  Any guidance or standards example you can provide are appreciated!

We have also found it difficult to find industry standards for these functions. For ROI, we have a 2 part process: logging releases and processing releases from a work queue. Our standards, based on time studies, are 15 per hour for logging and 4 per hour for processing. Most of our records are electronic and we are often able to output in electronic format which expedites the processing time significantly.

    Good morning,
We have standards in place that would be similar to 15 per hours for logging and scanning requests, we have a 2 per hour for processing and completing the requests which includes the QC portion.  We have a hybrid system currently.  I think it is hard to have an industry standard because there as some many different systems for EHRs right now.  Maybe do some time trials and develop and standard that fits your facility

    Good luck

    Hello Diana,

Great question you pose.  I am working on creating standards for the HIM department I work in.  I too have had trouble finding industry standards for these metrics.  You mention that what you have found differed depending on which organization it was.  I have not been able to find that information anywhere.

Do you have any leads on organizations that have that information available that I might be able to research?  Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

This summer, Healthcare Business Insights released 2019 Revenue Cycle Staffing and Productivity Benchmarks which covers some of the HIM operational functions.

Do you by chance have a link to this?  I tried searching for it, but coming up empty handed.
