If your facility currently uses Meditech for physician office coding-  can you tell me what module that is completed out of and what version of meditech you are on? Also, do you have an encoder? Having a lot of trouble implementing this! Thank you!

    Good morning,
We are Meditech 6.15, recently migrated from Meditech Magic on 01/01/2018. In both systems our physician coders coded out of the billing module. In 6.15 they code from the patient accounting desktop. There is not an integrated encoder, but the coders can use 3M as a stand alone product. When we were Magic, they coded out of LSS, the billing module.

Thanks Kathryn. Does this process seem to be working smoothly for you all? Do you use the encoder consistently or is it just there if needed as a standalone?

    Hi Mikki,
It seems to work pretty well. The physician coders have never had an integrated encoder so they don't have that experience to compare. I believe the coders mostly use the encoder, but they have their books as well. It used to be that new coders couldn't use the encoder until they had proven competence by coding first from the books. I can't say for sure that still happens. Our facility coders use an integrated encoder so we use 3M as both a stand alone and an integrated option.

    Hello MIkki,

We use Meditech 6.15 and our physician coding is conducted in the BAR/Patient Accounting module thought the Coding Visit Worklist  which is separate from our acute coding that is conducted in Abstracting. Coders have access to 3M on both sides but for Ambulatory, they don't code through 3M. Providers select the appropriate code from their documentation template and coders verify the accuracy and add any additional codes as needed. The Coding Visit Worklist is mainly a data entry screen for coders.

    Thanks,
