I work for ICU physicians who go to hospitals other than their home hospital, to place an ECMO device on a patient who they have addressed as requiring to potentially save their life. The question I have is how do we bill for the supplies that we bring, the ECMO machine, cannulas, and other items. We have heard from other hospitals that they bill as if the service happened in their facility and we hear from our compliance department that we need to bill the outside hospital for these services. I am just wanting to see if anyone knows of any guidelines or has dealt with billing supplies on a patient that was brought from hospital A, using hospital A staff, being placed on a patient at hospital B in hospital B cath lab. We do end up transporting the patient back to hospital A to provide services for the time they are on ECMO and hopefully eventually are weaned off of it.
These would be for facility fees or part a. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
