I needs some help with question regarding billing and coding for MAT service visits. Is anyone adding any supplemental status codes to those visits?  At my clinic they are using F11.20 but is that the correct code to use as now on suboxone and if ok to use is it enough?

I was researching the status codes for a that population and suboxone treatment.  By any chance does anyone know of a supplemental code that we should be suing.  I suggested Z79.891-  Long term (current) use of opiate analgesic to help support the visit but iIgot push back not to use. Could we use  Z79.899 Other long term (current) drug therapy. Just not sure if F11.20 alone is sufficient.

What do others do when addressing this type of encounter in the outpatient setting? Any and all feedback appreciated

    Hi Janet,

i agree with the advice to not use the long-term use code. When you check the codebook, it specially excludes methadone and other drug therapy for opioid dependence. It is meant to be used for patients with (for instance) chronic pain who use methadone for pain control. I would go with the F code plus the generic Z-code for long term use of other meds.

(Why doesn't the reply screen let us see the post we're replying to? This is quite maddening!)
