ADVANCING CREDENTIALS

    Hello,

I have my RHIT and have worked with my degree for almost 5 years. I am looking to expand my credentials list and was looking at the options available on AHIMA with my current credentials and experience and I was hoping for some insight from someone?

I would really like to try my hand at the CPHS credential and would love to talk with someone as to how exactly would be the best methods to pursue it. I looked at the curriculum geared to this certification and there is a ton of options from books to plenty of live in person courses, and webinars.

I would just to pick someone's brain that has this credential or others and how they went about it or what was most helpful to them from the huge amount of resources.

    Thank you in advance!

The CHPS workshop was an excellent resource for me in obtaining my CHPS. It is an onsite course in Chicago or various other sites. That will more than prepare you to pass the test. Angela Rose usually runs the seminars and does a great job

Im sure credentials and certifications are two totally different things , but i am a highschool senior . I got the chance to gain two certifications and working on my third one , but i can see having those certifications really do benefit me and will continue to benefit me in the long run. Im learning early on how things work in the settings when i went to internship.

I'm late responding to this, but get the book that AHIMA uses for taking the test, and work/volunteer with someone that works with within their job scope.

I second what Greg mentioned.  The CHPS workshops, which are held periodically around the country (Vegas coming up), are excellent.  When I took it about five years ago, there was a bundle where you got the cost of the workshop, a book, and the test all rolled into one. Feel free to call or email with specific questions if you have any. Good luck!

I third what the others have said.  The workshop was excellent as I really needed more help with Security.  Had been doing Privacy for a while and have that down pat.   Also, if you are interested, there is another community - Certification Exam Prep.  We share information on various credentials and include CHPS.  There is also a library tab in that community and a CHPS folder that holds a lot of resource material as well.  Kathy Downing is now overseeing the CHPS workshops.   Good luck and am partial in believing this is a great credential and field of HIM.  We have a very active group and most actively network together as well.
