Our HIM Department wants to pursue creating a separate ROI position that will specifically handle legal requests and risk management requests. These requests tend to be the most complicated, require critical thinking skills and considerable amount of time. The new position would require an associates or RHIT or bachelors/RHIA preferred. Our current ROI clerk job description only requires a GED or high school diploma.
Has anyone created a specific ROI position to handle these types of requests or require that this position have an Associates or be credentialed or change their current job descriptions to require a degree/credentials ?
We have two positions, HIM Legal Specialist I and II specifically for this. I'm happy to share our JDs if you want to shoot me an email, Jamie.email@example.com

This may not have all of the answers, but there is a Release of Information Toolkit (2013) that may be a good reference: Release of Information Toolkit: A Practical Guide for the Access, Use, and Disclosure of Protected Health Information
