Demographic Facesheets

    All,
The Joint Comission standard states: The medical record contains the following demographic information and then proceeds to list what must be contained. Our system only keeps the "facesheet" for a visit for a year, however the current demographic information is available in the EMR. Are you keeping facesheets from previous years to satisfy this demographic requirement as the older facesheet captures this information for that particular past date of service? Or is the assumption that long as we maintain the current demographic information we are in compliance.
    Thoughts?

Not sure that a "facesheet" must be kept, but the question would be if you have a way to produce from your legal record all of the information that is on your facesheet for the legal retention period of your records.....if you do, I would think you are OK.........
