For those in hospitals...HIPAA complaints

When receiving an email from a patient which is a complaint about HIPAA, do you essentially follow the same steps and processes to respond to the complaint as you do for other grievances not related to HIPAA?

    Thanks!

Different departments in our organization handles grievances, depending on type of grievance, i.e. Behavioral Health, Risk Management.  Our Privacy Office handles all privacy complaints.

Thanks Rebecca!  On those complaints related to HIPAA that are also grievances (for example a complaint received by mail or email), does the privacy officer keep those on file or are those coordinated with whomever oversees the grievance process in general.

We would coordinate/share concerns with other departments as needed.  They would do their piece and respond in writing and we would separately do our piece and respond in writing.  Same if it originated in a department, the privacy piece would get forwarded to us to address.

    Hope that all makes sense

It does!  I think that is what is so special about the eGroups...the opportunity not to only share ideas and "what ifs"...but what people are ACTUALLY doing!

    Thanks X 2!
