in our industry where many of the HIM employees may work remotely.  I am curious as to whether the HIM director is also working remotely -either on a regular part time basis or full time basis?

Does anyone have knowledge of this and if so, can you identify the size the hospital or healthcare system?

Also, I would welcome any comments or thoughts on if this seems feasible. With the advent of technology, it would seem that even the HIM director could work at home.

    Hello Karen,
I am a remote manager for a diagnosis coding team for over 50 agencies.

Working remotely requires me to use reporting tools to evaluate employees and consistent/constant communication. The advantages are abundant. Just as managing from an office, the challenges appear to be the same. Summarizing, I believe managing from a remote position has strengthened my technology and communication skills.

Hope this offers you some assistance and feel free to message me.

Hello I'm new to this field and I am currently taking classes in order to get my certification.  Do you have any advice for someone who is getting their feet wet in this field and want to work from home?  Do I have to wait a certain amount of time, before I can start to work from home?

Hi Karen,   I currently work as a CDS and our coders are outsourced to R1.   Their coding manager works remotely with occasional onsite meetings or onsite training.   I believe her boss also works the same way, mostly remotely with occasional onsite visits.

I'm afraid this is all the information I have to share so I hope this was helpful to you.

    Have a nice day!
