Exempt Employees Working Remotely

    Hello All

I am interested in knowing if anyone has/is managing their EXEMPT staff remotely.  More specifically, those who work in the Privacy and/or Compliance arena, where productivity standards are harder to quantify as the work is more qualitative in nature, ie. some cases take longer to investigate/close out than others.

If so, what types of productivity reports/metrics do you or your leadership use to "manage" this type of workforce member?  Or if you just have any ideas to toss at me, I would appreciate that as well.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheryl,

I am so glad you asked the question! We do not have any remote team members from our Compliance Department, but looking to options for the future.

Having worked in Compliance it would be hard to quantify, like a production coder, the work that is being done every day.  Audits and responses do not occur everyday.  As a manager in HIM I can work remotely, and again harder to quantify the work done each day, as we are not coders.  However our "projects" do get completed.
Agree difficult to track and monitor exempt employees.  I guess having that relationship with them before they work remote, knwoing the kind of employee they are, would help, but again not quantifiable.  Trust is key.  and delivering when asked to.

Thanks Jennifer, this is my stance as well, but our Leadership is really pushing for a way to show we have metrics in place.  Its just a struggle, I do have a lawyer on staff, so a suggestion was showing work completed in a way a lawyer would show billable hours but this seems so "micromanagey" :)

I will just have to put on my creativity hat and trudge into the unknown, appreciate the feedback.
