Academic Institutions- Coding

  • 1.  Academic Institutions- Coding

I'm looking to make connections with coding management at other major academic institutions in the US. In reviewing current coding policies and practices, we recognize how imperative is to understand how other academic institutions interpret different coding scenarios/policies. This is a key element when discussing with faculty and administration. Physicians often ask how we measure up to other academic institutions.

The first topic I'm looking into is Assistant at Surgery for Non-physician Practitioners (ARNP/PA) with regard to robotics procedures. I'm with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics focusing on professional revenue. The most pressing question is whether or not other academic institutions are staffing their OR with APP's in addition to the primary surgeon and billing for assistant at surgery. There are compliance concerns as to the medical necessity and the use of qualified residents.
