1.  Privacy Officer Training

Posted 3 days ago
I'm looking into obtaining training to become a privacy officer. There are several online. I've taken some classes on line through AHMA but would like something that is more "how to". Does anyone have experience with the Health Care Compliance Association basic compliance academy? Also the Compliance Certification Board course? These both look interesting and offer a credential as well. I'm not currently working as a privacy officer but have some involvement with it.

Thank you.

Hello Susan,

I am a member of AHIMA and HCCA and have both the CHPS and CHPC. Obtaining these certifications will require a strong understanding of the Privacy, Security, and Breach Rule. Both tests present scenarios where you have to apply judgement on which answer is the best. The CHPC is focused more on compliance and you would need a general understanding of compliance in healthcare.

When it comes to "how-to" you should browse through AHIMA's Library (Book of Knowledge). Start with the job description of the privacy officer and use each requirement as a topic to study.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
