The patient comes in AMS. The dr states that it’s in setting of seizure vs withdrawal vs intoxication, poly substance abuse. The patient also has possible aspiration pneumonia. What pdx would you use?

I think that you need to wait a bit and probably query.  If the AMS was post-ictal, it should clear quickly.  I think that the provider will most likely be able to differentiate.  Even though the patient came in with AMS, were there signs/symptoms of aspiration on admission?  There are many unanswered questions and it seems that it may be early days yet.

    Dear Tiffany,

    Is the patient being admitted?
