Coding, Classification & Reimbursement

1.  Metrics Concerning Professional Coding

Posted 11 days ago
Hi All! I am posting this discussion in hopes of gaining some ideas on professional coding metrics. I am a senior in the HIM program at Augusta University, and am currently working on my senior project. My site coordinator recommended that I chat back and forth with some other HIM professionals to gather ideas on what types of metrics I am to include in my project. For my project, I am working on creating a powerpoint template for the hospital coding educators to present to providers during monthly coding education meetings. The most important slide in the presentation will be a dashboard containing graphs and charts of metrics associated with the professional coding department, to act as visuals for the providers. These metrics will be areas that the providers should be receiving education in. I have spoken with several individuals in the organization to gather ideas, but would love to hear of any you all may have as well. Have any of you ever created a dashboard like this? If so, which metrics did you use that benefited the department and providers with completing documentation? I greatly appreciate any ideas anyone may have to send my way. Thank you in advance!

P.S. A few we have already discussed to include in the dashboard are 1) comparing providers to their piers in the same specialty within the organization concerning the level of E/M codes being submitted. Another is how many providers are completing their documentation within the 13 day period of this facility. And the last one we had discussed was the percentage of providers whose charges are being sent to the non-compliant folder on a monthly basis. Any other ideas any of you may have would be greatly appreciated :)
